The pups have been on a bit of a wild streak lately. I guess they must be entering their rebellious teenage years or something.
Exhibit A: We discovered last night that Errol has been munching on the phone cord for our internet connection. It's hidden along the perimeter of the office, behind office furniture and a couch. Last night, Fang started barking furiously at Errol, so I went to investigate, and found Errol chewing happily away on the cord. It wasn't the first time, from the looks of the poor cord. Lucky for him, we found out before he electrocuted himself. He got a nice yelling at, and we've replaced the cord. So far, he's behaving himself.
Exhibit B: Fang has learned he can escape from the deck. Our dogs don't know how to go up or down long sets of stairs. They're four years old, and have never figured it out, and we decided not to teach them. This has been quite convenient for us for several reasons. 1) They can't bother our overnights guests who stay in the basement. 2) They can't get out to the backyard and run away because of the stairs leading from the deck to the yard (they can go right through the wrought iron fences that our neighborhood allows because they're so small). They can't leave the house through the garage because of the stairs there. The only place we've had to watch them is at the front door. Well, in January, we went to visit Jeff's aunt in Kansas City. During that visit, Fang experienced enough separation anxiety from me being on the 2nd floor while he was on the 1st floor, that he managed to run up the stairs to get to me all on his own. That was the first sign of trouble. The second was when Jeff walked down the stairs on the deck last week and Fang followed right along. Jeff caught him at the bottom, but that was the end of unsupervised freedom on the deck for the dogs. We have bought a gate to install at the top of the stairs to the deck. He doesn't seem to have figured out the garage or the indoors stairs yet, so we're keeping our fingers crossed on those.
Exhibit C: Errol has started DEMANDING lap time by throwing temper tantrums. Whenever I am at the computer, he will come over and growl at me and paw at my legs until I let him up on my lap. What a brat. Of course, he almost always gets his way. Then he sits there and gloats about it when Fang comes by looking for lap time.
Exhibit D: (The most obnoxious, but also hilarious new behavior) Fang has started targeting Errol whenever he needs to throw up. Fang throws up about once a week. Lately, it seems that he likes to seek out his brother and throw up on him instead of on the ground. Yes, this is disgusting and annoying for us to have to clean up. Errol has to have a bath right away, which he hates. Fang usually chooses to do this in the middle of the night, which we hate. But the dirty looks that Errol gives Fang after it happens are PRICELESS! Too funny.
